Resolis Teams Up for Impact: Volunteering at Peterborough School’s Forest Garden

Resolis is committed to making a tangible, positive impact on the communities in which we operate. As part of our ongoing commitment to social responsibility, we encourage our team members to take part in volunteer efforts.

Recently, two of our team members, Michelle Barron and Gemma Zajac, took part in a rewarding volunteer day at Jack Hunt Academy in Peterborough. The aim was to breathe new life into the school’s Forest Garden, transforming a neglected space into a place of renewal.

The Challenge

The Forest Garden had been overrun by thick weeds and unruly vegetation, hiding the flower beds and vegetable planters that were once part of the school’s environmental education program.

What was meant to be a vibrant learning space had become nearly unrecognisable, with some weeds reaching heights of over waist-high (yes, they were that tall, and Gemma can confirm it wasn’t just her short stature!).

The heat of the day was an unexpected challenge, with temperatures soaring to 32°C. Despite the sweltering conditions — and a few unexpected reactions to the local flora (Michelle will never look at a spiderweb the same way again!) — the team persevered, eager to contribute to a cause that would benefit the students at Jack Hunt Academy.

The Work

Michelle and Gemma, alongside the school’s Business Manager, Simon Linforth, worked tirelessly to clear the garden, pulling weeds, trimming overgrowth, and uncovering the hidden flower beds and planters. In just six hours, the team made a massive difference, transforming the neglected area into a usable outdoor space for the students.

The Forest Garden is now a space where students can reconnect with nature, engage in outdoor learning, and perhaps most importantly, enjoy a peaceful and inspiring environment.

Key Impact

  • Environmental Revival
The team’s work was crucial in restoring the Forest Garden. It is now eady to support environmental education and outdoor activities for students, particularly benefiting those in need of a quiet space to learn and reflect.
  • Team Bonding
The day provided an opportunity for the Project teams to collaborate outside of project conversations and form stronger bonds while contributing to a common goal.
  • Positive Feedback
The school’s Business Manager, Simon Linforth, was thrilled with the results, stating that the work would have a lasting impact on the school’s vulnerable students, improving their educational outcomes. His message of gratitude is a testament to the value of these efforts.

Message from the School

Hi Both,

Just a quick note of thanks for all the help and support yesterday with the volunteer day you both attended at Jack Hunt Academy in our somewhat overgrown Forest School area.

I can’t believe how much we achieved in just one day, and it wouldn’t have been so successful without your hard work and dedication to the task.

The difference you made will see a positive improvement in the area, meaning we can start to use it properly again in September.

I know that your efforts will have an impact on the long-term educational outcomes of some of our more vulnerable students.

Simply put, thank you.

Yours gratefully,

Simon Linforth

Looking Ahead: Building on Success

The volunteering day at Jack Hunt Academy was a resounding success, and it has set the stage for future volunteer initiatives at Resolis. Not only did it make a meaningful difference for the school, but it also reinforced our ongoing commitment to social responsibility.

As part of Resolis’ broader initiative, we continue to encourage employees to take part in volunteer days and community projects that have a lasting impact on the environment and society. We look forward to further opportunities to support local initiatives and foster a culture of giving back.
