Resolis supports pioneering orthopaedic research with Heriot-Watt University
Resolis is proud to be supporting a new PhD research project at Heriot-Watt University, helping to advance research that could contribute to improved outcomes in orthopaedic surgery.
The project has a particularly relevant connection for Resolis through Forth Valley Royal Hospital, which forms part of our healthcare portfolio.
The PhD brings together Heriot-Watt’s academic expertise with NHS Forth Valley’s clinical orthopaedic expertise, creating a natural link between our work supporting healthcare infrastructure and our wider commitment to research with the potential to deliver positive patient outcomes.
The PhD, Optimised Placement of Orthopaedic Staples – Image-Based Finite Element Modelling and Structural Optimisation, will explore how the number, material, orientation and positioning of orthopaedic staples can influence fixation performance in foot and ankle surgery.
The aim is to use advanced computational modelling to help develop clinically meaningful guidance for staple placement.
As an industry partner, Resolis will provide mentoring and supplemental funding to the project, supporting doctoral-level education while contributing to research with the potential to deliver positive patient outcomes.
This reflects our wider ESG commitment to responsible corporate citizenship and investment in research with public benefit.
The project is led by Dr George Vasdravellis at Heriot-Watt University and supported by an interdisciplinary supervisory team spanning biomedical engineering, structural optimisation and clinical orthopaedic surgery at NHS Forth Valley.
